Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center
Texas Woman's University, Houston, TX
Challenge:
The Denton-based Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has a reputation for offering one of the best and largest nursing doctoral programs in the country. In response to critical needs for increasing enrollment and serving the nursing industry’s workforce crisis, the co-ed university recently developed the Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center. Having built a strong relationship with AV integrator AVI-SPL in the past, TWU turned to our firm to design, engineer and install advanced systems for their newest facility.
Solution:
Over a four-month period, our firm worked on approximately 100,000 square feet of TWU’s newest facility, integrating 35 separate AV systems. Due to the large number of AV systems, TWU opted to purchase "spares" for back-up equipment for maintenance or repair issues.
Benefiting from the latest in highly-developed technology, the center focuses on increasing student/teacher interactivity. AVI-SPL’s team accomplished this through the installation of three videoconferencing rooms, with capabilities that include advanced projection and audio systems, along with the convenience of fully-loaded equipment racks.
Highlights of this immense project includes the integration of 14 standard classroom packages, featuring customized instructor stations, dual projection systems, dual camera videoconferencing systems and advanced audio capabilities with voice uplift features. Twelve instructional labs are now equipped with high-resolution projection systems, as well as portable equipment racks with connectivity to DVD/VCR combo units, laptops and desktop computers. This set up includes connectivity to a state-of-the-art audio system for each room. TWU’s professors can quickly maneuver the new technology through AMX touch panel control systems, installed for ease of use and consistency.
Equipment Highlights:
Dual projections systems, dual camera videoconferencing systems, touch panel control systems, audio systems with voice lift capabilities, DVD/VCR combo units, laptops, desktop computers
