Compuware Corporate Headquarters

Compuware, Detroit, MI

Design and Installation

Challenge:

The new Compuware Corporation world headquarters in Detroit is based on a simple premise: that change is a permanent part of doing business today. Given this direction, the IT management and software firm chose an architectural style emphasizing open floor space, with conference rooms and corporate offices defined by modular walls. This design meant that the AV technology could not interfere with the modularity of any space. Another challenge was to keep the systems easy to use and consistent among rooms so that the 4,000 employees in the headquarters could use the technology with little training.

This comprehensive project included: 18 large conference rooms; a briefing room; boardroom, five training rooms, dining area, a fitness center complete with a full-sized basketball court and running track; and a top floor auditorium.

Solution:

In order to incorporate a seamless installation, our engineers chose mounts that could be easily removed or reconfigured for monitor and speaker placement.

Our installations teams built identical AV systems in all 18 of the large conference rooms, each equipped with a ceiling mounted Sharp LCD projector and a motorized projection screen and Atlas speakers. We also housed an equipment rack beneath each conference table. To make the technology easy to operate, our technicians designed a small four-button control panel that was mounted in the pop-up unit. This panel allows the casual user to turn the system on, choose the in/out source, lower the screen, and make volume adjustments. A small Crestron touch panel was also provided to allow the more experienced user greater control over the systems. A Polyvision Copycam Pro hangs on one wall of each room.

The most sophisticated AV system in the building is housed in the briefing center on the eighth floor, where Compuware makes most of its client presentations. The client wanted multiple video display possibilities, so our engineers installed a Draper rear projection screen in the front of the room and hung four 50” Sony plasma screens around the room. A Bose wall mount speaker system is included, along with a Creston control system that allows a presenter to show up to three different computer images at once on the main screen and the plasma monitors. The table includes four flip-top technology cavities that offer connections for laptop, video, network, and AC and includes a customized four-button control panel.

We added sound masking systems throughout the building, a plasma-based digital signage system to the lobby and public areas, sound reinforcement to a basketball court, and background music, plasma TVs and an aerobics instructor voice/music system to a fitness center.
